Following the first Beer & Hymns at Greenbelt several years ago a couple of us Greenbelters from our church (we normally have about 80 + of us going to Greenbelt- we live under the Red Tomato flag!) returned to Leicester and thought it would be good to try and get out into the community as a church to show as Christians we are actually quite normal people (well almost!) and a Beer & Carols seemed a good idea. We approached on one of our locals and the landlord was up for it and so we had our first one 3 years ago to which we had about 150. We repeated it last year at the same pub but had 2 nights ( about 120 and 100 attending). This year we branched out and had 2 events at 2 different local pubs in the city centre to which we had of the order of 120-150 at each event It now seems we have a regular event in the calendar! The landlords were great (in fact the first one had his best night’s takings of the year!). He wanted us to do something at Easter(!!!! – We told him Easter hymns were not quite the same!). The aim is as you say “To drink Beer, Sing Carols and Enjoy yourself!”, which everyone seems to do with gusto. I am writing to let you know it has taken off as a result of the Beer & hymns at Greenbelt and also I have a couple of short video clips of this years. If you are interested then I will forward them to you and you may want to put them on the website. Please let me know We will see you in august at Greenbelt! Best Wishes Peter Gilbert – Church of The Martyrs - Leicester

What a find! Thank you so, so, so much for putting all this up on the web. I was at Beer and Hymns at Greenbelt this year and it was nothing less than a monumental moment for me as I went hoarse singing these magnificent songs of praise whilst swilling down my pint or two of confession! Now I have a Kirk Session Meeting tomorrow night (Church of Scotland equivalent to a Parish Council) to seek their blessing to our Watchnight Service taking place in the Capital Asset pub and restaurant next door to our sanctuary. More than this, the Pub along with The local Inveralmond Brewery are offering to brew a St. Matthew''s Ale to help raise funds for our £49,000 spire repairs! Guys, thanks again for putting up the video clips. It brought the joy and delight of August all back. Cheers, Scott.
